MEN – FIRST RESPONDER

When: Choose your preferred on-call shift, and take turns with others on the team. Where: Connect From Your Location-at home or on the go. Contact: AVENUE Volunteer Central Contact Email: volunteer@avenue.works Open Volunteer Spots: 24

What is the job of the First Responder? This volunteer is the first connection point for a man making an inquiry to get our help or ask questions, via live call, online chat, text, or email.  The purpose of the role is to provide comfort, encouragement, prayer and direct him to one of our healing groups. You may answer some questions, but this is not a counseling role, or an attempt to solve the problems for which he needs Avenue. Our communication system keeps volunteer and inquirer’s contact information private. You can help others from the comfort of your own home, or on the go with your mobile phone. You’ll share your preferred on-call shifts with other First Responders, acting as a team so that all inquiries are answered quickly.

Importance: You are the first person that a man in need will connect with in Avenue. You’re there to give a desperately needed, loving hand to a man reaching for help. Your interaction with him is the catalyst to get the help he needs.

Need:  We will soon enable inquirers to chat or text with our First Responders. We expect a greater response from those in need to reach out for help, and we must be prepared to serve each and every man.

Training: You’ll be given training on how to give the help he needs at this point. You’ll be trained on our very simple communication system which you log into remotely. You only need a computer with internet access and mobile phone.

Commitment: We ask that you give at least 2-4 hours of your time every week. We also ask you can commit to serving 6 months, and consider 12 months or more. Some of our First Responders enjoy this rewarding work so much, they’ve continued in this role for years.

Criteria:  Review these essentials to help you decide whether volunteering in this capacity would be a good fit for you at this time.

  • You are being restored and stable to hear another man’s raw story.
  • You agree with Avenue’s statement of faith: https://avenue.works/we-believe/
