High-tech dolls with realistic silicone skin, the ability to flirt and ‘more’ have become increasingly available. This type of doll technology has advanced in recent years as companies produce life-like robots costing about $20,000. Buyers can hand-pick features such as face, hair etc. The dolls are programmed to remember the owner's birthday and favorite films and music.
Other than news of this scientific advancement in robots, the remainder of this report shouldn’t really be classified as ‘news’, because there’s nothing new. For those who are already in the habit of viewing real women as sex objects via porn and prostitution, it is no stretch at all for the same person to use ‘objects made for sex’ as sex objects.
A report by ethics researchers Neil McArthur and Markie Twist of the University of Manitoba state that:
“Psychotherapists should be prepared for more clients "participating in digisexualities”. The sex robot craze will spark rise of ‘digisexuals’ where men will only sleep with dolls, experts warn. New high-tech dolls can speak, interact and more. The craze for these robots will lead to a growing number of men whose only sexual and romantic relationships will be with dolls, academics say. So-called "digisexuals" will shun human partners in favor of the new kind of virtual reality porn and customizable robots able to speak and interact.
The warning comes in a study of the growing use of dolls. People will form an intense connection with their robot companions. For this reason, significant numbers of people will likely come to use robots as their primary mode of sexual experience. Some will prefer them to direct sexual interactions with humans.”
In this report, the statement that ‘Psychotherapists should be prepared for’ this new phenomena, isn’t explained. So why should they prepare? Because the use of porn has been shown to highly affect user tendency to obsession, anger and depression. These researchers have also drawn the same conclusion; that no matter the newness of the ‘object’, the outcome will be the same. ‘Objects with benefits’ have destructive side effects.
